Help your child in teething period

It is really easy to say that there is nothing we can do during the teething period, when the child feels a lot of pain and he is totally restless. It will be inhumane to just wait for the tooth to come up and not try to comfort the little one in any way possible. The truth is that teething is a very normal and delicate phase in life. It is indeed a long one, but only in the beginning of it the child experiences really traumatic and hurting feelings.
He may wake up from his sleep and even scream as if the world totally collapses. In these delicate moments it is good to hold them and to reassure them of your love and comfort. Even if we think that they do not understand very well, the fact is that the affection given is often more powerful than a thousand medicines. It is a mixture of attention and care that makes the child to feel better. Also it is vital not to punish him or argue when he keeps the fingers in the mouth. The baby is actually trying to massage the area where the new tooth is about to appear. We can spot that area because it presents itself as a little lump or a white area on the gums.
We can gently massage his gums or if we do not have the time a cold toy that can be chewed will do a lot of good. The cool will calm the baby and the pain will considerably diminish.
